At this time Metamask only works to store and transfer TFUEL and TNT-20 tokens. It cannot be used with the THETA token for technical reasons, though this may be developed in the future. This Metamask integration is intended to facilitate interaction between Theta and Ethereum for dapp development purposes which primarily uses TFUEL and TNT-20 tokens, rather than THETA which is intended to be staked long-term to Theta nodes.
While there's no guaranteed way to recover them—as is common with all crypto issues—these steps offer your best chance and are definitely worth trying.
Steps to Recover Your Theta Tokens:
Check if Tokens Are Still Available:
-
Visit the official Theta Network explorer: https://explorer.thetatoken.org.
-
Enter the address where the tokens were sent.
-
If the tokens are visible there, you might be able to recover them. If not, they might be unrecoverable.
Import MetaMask Wallet into a Theta-Compatible Wallet:
-
Retrieve your MetaMask wallet’s private key:
-
Open MetaMask, go to Settings > Security & Privacy, and view your private key for the specific account. Copy this private key.
-
Access Your Tokens via Theta Wallet:
-
Visit the official Theta Wallet Unlock page (wallet.thetatoken.org) — make sure it’s the legitimate site!
-
For added security, consider performing the next steps offline:
-
Enter your private key to unlock the wallet.
-
Once offline, input your private key and create a wallet password.
-
Retrieve and Transfer Tokens:
-
After unlocking the wallet, you should see your Theta tokens.
-
If you want to transfer them to another address, go online, initiate the transfer, and confirm the transaction.
